   Algonquin Heritage Preservation

We are an ancient people actively involved in preservation our Algonquin heritage and culture, as we have done for thousands of years. Ours is the only Native American owned and operated museum on Long Island. As we present both our ancient and living Eastern Woodland culture, we the Shinnecock, People of the Stony Shore, welcome you to the Shinnecock Nation Cultural Center and Museum for an exciting and educational experience.

Dedicated to Our Ancestors
With the establishment of our tribal museum on our reservation, near Southampton, Long Island, New York, we have reached yet another milestone in our long and proud march through history. Dedicated to the Ancestors, whom we are taught to honor from generation to generation, the museum with its carved deer door officially opened in June of 2001.

Permanent Exhibition
Our first permanent exhibit, A Walk with the People, consists of murals painted by Shinnecock artist, David Bunn Martine. The murals depict the journey of the People from pre-historic times to the present. In July of 2003, the Estate of Fredrick DeMatteis generously donated 20 bronze sculptures of Native American figures, which became our second permanent exhibit, My Spirit Dances Forever.
